Mixed Technology Assembly | SMT + Through-Hole on One Board

Mixed Technology Assembly | SMT + Through-Hole on One Board

Mixed technology (SMT + through-hole) assembly with reflow, wave and selective soldering for complex double-sided boards.

SMT and Through-Hole on the Same Board

Most real-world products mix fine-pitch SMD components with through-hole connectors, power devices or large electrolytic capacitors. Our mixed technology lines handle both processes in one flow, with the right soldering method for each joint.

Process Options

  • Single-side mix: SMT reflow first, then wave or selective soldering for THT parts.
  • Double-side mix: A-side reflow, B-side reflow, then THT soldering with pallet protection.
  • Selective soldering for boards that cannot pass over a wave (tall parts, dense bottoms).
  • Hand soldering for connectors and odd-form components with temperature profiles.

DFM Points We Check

  • Wave-solder shadowing and pallet clearances on the bottom side.
  • Component spacing between SMD pads and THT holes to avoid re-melting.
  • Thermal relief design on ground planes for reliable hole filling.
